We think cold wintery nights are the perfect opportunity to set aside time for indulgent skin care to help you keep your complexion radiant throughout the chilly winter months.
Here we reveal the best winter night skin care routine for glowing skin.
Why does skin feel dry during winter?
Does your skin feel dry, tight and flaky? During the winter it’s normal to notice that your skin is struggling to maintain the hydration it needs to stay healthy and can leave you in search for a winter night moisturiser.
Winter dry skin can be caused by many factors including dehydrating central heating and skin-chaffing blustery weather.
We also change our eating habits in the winter and swapping fresh fruit and vegetables for carb-laden comfort foods can leave your skin lacking in nutrients and low on glow.
To counteract this, it is important that you replenish any lost moisture and nutrients with effective skin care at night. Cellular repair mainly happens during the early hours so using overnight beauty products is the ideal way to address parched winter skin.
To help you build an effective night skin care routine for glowing skin we asked our Cosmetic Scientist, Ian Taylor, which winter night cream ingredients are best for locking hydration into dry skin.
The best ingredients for glowing skin in winter
Ian says: “When choosing hydrating winter skin care it is important that you look closely at the base oils used in your face creams and facial oils. These are usually listed high on the ingredients list and each oil will deliver a different benefit.
“For soft, hydrated skin, the best base oils to look for are Jojoba Oil, Almond Oil, Rosehip Oil, Sunflower Oil, Pomegranate Oil and Squalane that is derived from Olive.
"These skin-softening ingredients anchor moisture into the skin and because they are high in fatty acids they also have powerful emollient properties.”
Night skin care routine for glowing skin
Much like we add an extra layer of clothing to lock in warmth, dry skin needs an extra dose of hydration to maintain its moisture levels during the cold weather seasons.
Layering your winter night skin care is easy to do and helps to trap moisture into dry skin.
Here is a 5-step routine for glowing skin in winter naturally:
- Cleanse: remove make-up and dirt
- Scrub: lift away dead skin cells twice a week
- Serum: apply your serum first as this sinks deepest into the skin tissue
- Cream: apply your winter night cream and eye cream using a tapping motion to penetrate the skin barrier
- Oil: select a nutrient-rich facial oil and lightly tap this into the skin to seal in hydration
