Betaine is derived from Sugar Beet and is one of the ingredients we use to make our range of natural and organic toothpastes.
Why do we use Betaine in toothpaste?
Betaine has a strong affinity with water and is utilised by body cells to protect themselves against dehydration.
When added to toothpastes, Betaine encourages the production of saliva and helps to maintain moisture levels within the mouth.
Betaine-containing toothpaste may be helpful for symptoms of dry mouth syndrome (Xerostomia) as well as gum irritation.
Despite being derived from Sugar Beet, Betaine is not sweet in taste and is not linked to sugar, so is not bad for teeth.
