Do you experience dry, sore lips whenever cold weather comes along in the UK?
In this post, we look at the causes of dry lips in winter and explain how the ingredients in our natural lip balm can help to stop your lips from feeling chapped this winter.
Why do I get dry lips in winter?
Lips are thin mucus membranes and, unlike skin, they do not produce their own sebum or have a barrier that keeps hydration locked in. This means that they are particularly prone to dehydration, especially during UK winters when low humidity strips away moisture.
Winter illnesses, such as colds and bunged-up noses, can also cause us to breathe through our mouths more often, exacerbating dry lips.
Does lip balm help sore dry lips?
A good lip balm is a UK winter weather essential for protecting dry lips and making them feel less tight and sore. The soothing, lip-softening actives can help to alleviate discomfort and repair cracked, chapped lips.
Apply a light layer of lip balm throughout the day and you’ll build a barrier of balm that protects against lip-drying winter weather whilst also helping dry lips hold onto hydration for longer.

3 tips for using lip balm for dry lips in winter
REAPPLY REGULARLY:
To build up a protective barrier, you’ll need to reapply your lip balm regularly. Apply One Balm as often and as required, reapplying after eating or drinking.
BUFF BEFORE YOU BALM:
Lip balms will not be effective if they cannot be absorbed by the lips. To help your lip balm deeply nourish the lips, buff away any dry flakes that sit on the lips and block the path of reparative actives.
To exfoliate the lips, lightly buff away the dead skin cells using a soft, clean toothbrush or a clean, dry flannel. Work in small circular motions before rinsing the lips with lukewarm water.
NOURISH AT NIGHT
If having the central heating on leaves you waking to tight, dry lips, apply a light layer of lip balm just before you go to bed.
As you rest, your lips will absorb and utilise the balm’s reparative actives so lips feel softer and more comfortable in the morning.
