Christmas at Green People is always a jolly affair and, as our founder is from Denmark, we put a Scandi twist on our festive season celebrations.

Come behind the scenes at Green People as we show you how to add a few Danish delights to December with our tips for enjoying a happy and Hygge Christmas.

Discover a new tradition with our guide to enjoying a happy and cosy Christmas.

Play the Danish dice game Pakkeleg

Another great way to achieve hygge at Christmas is to create a cosy home environment and gather your favourite people together for a games night.

A traditional Christmas game that we love to play at Green People HQ is Pakkeleg, fast-paced dice games where players compete to win presents.

All players must bring a wrapped gift to the playing area and typically, these are inexpensive things like sweets or novelty toys but, if you prefer, you can set a gift budget or a gift theme.

A great Pakkeleg gift would be an item from our Nordic Roots skin care range. Inspired by our founder’s heritage, this uses extracts from Scandinavian nature to comfort and protect delicate skin.

FANCY A GAME OF PAKKELEG?

A Christmas day game that all the family can play, the rules of Pakkeleg are easy for all ages to follow.

You will need:

  • 1-3 wrapped gifts from each participant
  • Dice
  • Timer
  • Players (you can play with as few as 2 players but, the more players you add, the more fun it will be!)

HOW TO PLAY PAKKELEG

ROUND 1:

Speed is of the essence in the fun and fast-paced Christmas table game. The aim of the game is to build a strong pile of presents before the clock runs out!

Prepare to play by placing the presents in the middle of the room or table. When you’re ready to start the game, set the timer and get that dice rolling.

Rolled numbers 1-5? Keep the dice moving and pass it on to the next player.

Rolled a 6? Congratulations! You can choose a present. No peeking just yet, all gifts must stay wrapped until the end of the game.

Roll until the last gift has been claimed and then prepare for round two.

ROUND 2:

Prepare to protect your presents as round two adds an extra twist to the game!

Set a 20 minutes timer and resume rolling the dice. This time, whenever a 6 is rolled you can grab a gift from another player’s pile.

Roll a 1 and you can take a gift from the player on your left. Roll a 6 and you can take a gift from any player!

If you roll neither a 6 or a 1, play resumes with everyone rolling as quickly as possible to maximise time and have the most chances to build your gift pile.

Once the time runs out, the game is over, and everyone can unwrap their present(s). To keep festive spirits high during the season of giving we always share with those that end the game with no gifts.

GAME OVER

Decorate the tree Scandi style

In Denmark it is tradition to deck the tree on Christmas Eve. Many Danes hang candles and homemade hearts on their tree and we also hang these on our office Christmas tree.

A crafternoon of making heart decorations is fun for all ages and is something we love here at Green People.

Leave Santa a Danish delight

Children in Denmark leave Santa a warming bowl of Risengrød. Akin to rice pudding, this cinnamon-flavoured treat is left by the chimney along to refuel Santa when he stops by.

If Santa is not too keen on sherry and mince pies, explore the Risengrød recipe on nordicfoodandliving.com and see if you can tame Santa’s reindeer with this comforting dishful of Hygge.

Drink Danish Gløgg

Gløgg is a traditional Danish Christmas drink, and this warming mulled wine drink warms our cockles on a blustery winter’s night.

Pour yourself a glass and join us in a toast to a merry Christmas!

Gift them Nordic beauty

Nordic Nightcap is a soothing, unscented skin care gift set that combines our favourites from the Nordic Roots collection. This dreamy sleep duo offers a replenishing hit of hydration that relieves discomfort and helps skin sleep better.

It is perfect for all skin types – even sensitive skin.
